Marlin Firearms Co. New Haven, CT USA, PAT'D Nov 6 1894, May 12 1896 & June 2 1896. The serial number is 71557F. Edited the Serial number - found the correct one under the BBL. It is pump action, exposed hammer, has a little button on the right side just below the hammer. Info on old Hammer pump shotgun. It has a 32 inch bbl, and is marked on top of the barrel '. *National Fire Arms Co.*'. Closer to the reciever is '12 Ga' On the left side of the barrel is '*Full Choke*' The serial number is on the reciever just in front of the feeding tube, '112202'. During 1998, Marlin issued a service bulletin recommending that slide action exposed hammer Models 1898, 16, 17, 19, 19S, 19G, 19N, 21, 24, 24G, 26, 30, 42, 49, and 49N, in addition to hammerless Models 28, 31, 43, 44, 53, and 63 should not be fired, as many of these guns are 70-100 years old, and system failures can and do happen.
Yours sounds like a model 1898

Thanks for the reply and the info. I retired this one years ago and will not fire it anymore. Would hate to mess up a nice gun,(and maybe my nose and face}. Keep up the good work. Thanks again.Rudy
