The review here is misleading - it's from an early version of the game

The review disappointed me because it's no longer accurate. There's a health bar and needs to fulfill for a horse, improved graphics (but they are still cartoonish - it's silly to think cinematic pictures and wallpapers on a site reflect real screenshots. It's fairly common) and it's easy to tell now what tack and clothing is better. You play as a can-do heroine that is incredibly patient and selfless as well as very skilled. There are many quests where you do everything from helping old ladies to exploring uncharted lands and doing heavy-duty construction work. The characters are very dynamic and they have their flaws but there are also truly wonderful people as well. One of my favorite quests is when you reconcile a broken family. There's nothing really inaproppiate, but the game is made for tweens so you should keep that in mind, it may be harder for younger kids and there are more mature themes (it accurately portrays anger and strife and family situations at times, but it's still rather light-hearted) There's a lot of walkthrough online for the particularly tough quests. The community isn't the greatest - on some of the larger servers the girls can be quite petty and there are some teenagers who try to get around the filter and swear. I recommend researching smaller servers if your daughter dislikes the huge crowds (the larger servers do have more chat moderation, though). The game is subscription based, but there's multiple free trial codes that come out from time to time and, using the codes they generously give out, you can still buy new horses and clothing as a non-paying member but you do run out of quests. If you pay for a subscription you get a weekly hundred Star Coin allowance so it's not required you spend real money on that currency. There's also a lifetime subscription for 75 dollars that lasts forever (most online MMOs don't even have that). You can talk to your child about helping out in the community, taking care of nature and animals (your horses require daily care and you need to spend time training by racing so they can get faster), saving up money (because of the weekly) and much more. There's a lot of depth to the game and it gets weekly updates, so you get your money's worth. The free-to-play parts of the game don't have as many quality quests and areas, but if you use one of the redeem codes for a week or two of free Star Rider you can get a better feel for the game. There are scary (in a more comical way - there's no gore - but it may scare younger players) monsters in this game as well, so be warned.8/10, cheaper than a real horse.

Beware of Prices!!

Star Stable is free to play to level five on both your horse and avatar. However, after that you have to pay for an upgrade (Star Rider) and Star Coins (currency to buy new horses and gear).Star Riders gain 100 Star Coins a week, nothing in comparison to prices in the game. then they'll have you buy Star Coins, for rather extreme prices for what you recieve (and they've been increasing the prices recently).I'd suggest finding something else to play - you'll end up consistently dumping money into the game if you truly want to keep up to date on new items. So, beware!

Lots of horses and fun

With an interesting storyline and many fun characters this game captures you from the very beginning. It's not just the story that's amazing about this game either, there are so many different horse breeds available and many of them look and move different from each other. Through this game I have met some amazing friends and I would recommend this game to everyone I meet!

Fun Horse Game Run by a Responsible Company

I am 29 and have played Star Stable for years so I have experience on the game. I know that many parents are concerned about the chat features within the game so I will give a little background on them. Star Stable uses a strict chat filter that catches almost everything that shouldn't be written. There are some persistent individuals that find ways around the filter using spaces and periods in words to get them to post. If your child sees someone doing this, they should click on the players name within the chat and block them, or report them to Star Stable. Numbers cannot be posted within any chat with the filter and a lot of names get filtered out as well. Star Stable has also removed the chat feature for some players when a parent has contacted them and requested it, and this has been documented on their Facebook page within comments on their posts. With that in mind I wouldn't have a problem allowing younger children who just want to run around on their horse to play the game. Younger children might not be able to finish some quests due to their complexity but they can still have fun racing in the game and riding their horses through different locations. As for the money to play the game, you can go up to level 5 for free and then you either have to pay a lifetime fee or a monthly subscription fee. Sometimes they offer a few months of membership for free, you just have to wait for this offer because it's not available all the time. If you have a child that really likes playing the game, you save money in the long run paying for the lifetime membership. Star Stable also has deals on their Lifetime membership pretty frequently. They will offer more star coins with the membership for the same price and even take 30% off of the price a couple times a year. Just this past week they did this and lifetime membership was only $52.49 USD. There are also Star Coins that you can purchase to be able to buy special clothes and horses in the game. You never have to buy these unless you want to. You can play the entire game without ever having to purchase Star Coins. When you have a lifetime membership you will receive 100 Star Coins per week so you don't have to pay for extra star coins ever if you don't want to. You will just have to save them for the horses/items you want.I know people complain that the site costs money but this game is constantly improving and growing. The graphics have been vastly improved and quests are being added frequently. Each Wednesday the game is updated with new content. Star Stables employees put a large amount of time and effort into creating everything within the game and deserve to be paid for this work. By paying a membership fee, be it lifetime or monthly, you are paying for their wages. And honestly you have access to every single thing available on the game if you pay for the lifetime membership and you never have to pay again. You get more than your money's worth in my opinion. If you don't want to pay a membership fee you can still play the game and have horses and etc, you just won't be able to complete more quests and take part in certain races in areas you will not be able to reach without advancing your level. All in all this is one of the safest games for kids to play that have to do with horses. Star Stable replies to Facebook messages/posts and if you @ them on Twitter. I find they reply quicker this way than to emails.

Absolutely Awful

So I came across this game, and it was rated far better than all the other horse games. My daughter , 11, at the time was very happy about playing. She met many friends and played almost every night. Now, she's 14 and star stable keeps closing her chat for no reason and giving her warnings when she has done nothing wrong. Star Stable refuses to address that the new moderators are way too harsh, and the customer support is very rude. On top of it all, my daughter rarely lays now. She shows me the news feed, and it seemed to have gotten very boring. A complete waste of money, and time. So find a new horse game.

Customer Service is terrible.

My daughter loved this game and eventually convinced us to buy her membership as a gift. The problems began less than a month after the purchase. She somehow was either hacked or the game had a glitch and she was 'transported' to a world that she can't play in (her level isn't high enough. We have been messaging, emailing, begging, complaining for over a week and have received absolutely no help. The one actual email we received from the 'customer service' rep. consisted of one sentence 'a level 12 cannot be in Epona'..completely unhelpful. I am so tired of dealing with this.

The best horse game out there!

I've been playing horse games since I was a little kid, but this one is BY FAR the best and I've been an active player for four years. This game brings out the message that every girl is a hero, the story revolves about a single girl destined to save the magical island of Jorvik from dark forces and since all the dialogue is in text only, the game is also educational since you have to be a fair reader to be able to continue on in the game. You're able to choose between over 100 horses of different breeds, looks and colours (new horses are added about every 6th week or something), you can customize your character quite well (new clothes get added weekly) and since the game updates with new content every single week, you'll never get bored. New quests are also added from time to time, and you get to explore more and more of the island as new expansions of it is released yearly.Even though the game revolves around you as you're saving Jorvik from ancient magic, you never encounter violence. On the other hand, you meet lots and lots of fun characters when you're out discovering, and you of course have the opportunity to chat with other players. This is a very happy and child friendly game that also attracts lots of older players who always longed for such a horse game. (Very small children can play this accompanied by an adult who helps them read the texts)

Moneypit

I'm a little old to be reviewing this (18), but I grew up playing the Summer/Spring/Autumn/Winter Riders --- which are the unpopular stand-alone single player games that came out wayyy before SSO. These earlier games had no chat, were story-driven, and didn't have to spend any real money at all to buy new items/horses --- which is my biggest gripe with SSO. SSO is great if you just want to ride around and complete missions, etc. but horrible for your wallet if you want to buy new horses and accessories. It's scandalous that they want you to pay 20 for ONE virtual horse. I'm older, so I can see past some of the bullshit, but for younger fans this might be an issue. Hopefully, they will change it sometime in the future so you can buy horses with just the in-game currency that you earn during quests.

Not for children

Hello! I'm 19 (Yes I know I'm a bit old for kid games), and ever since I was around 6, I've played games like these. I think the graphics compared to the ads are very misleading, but that's how many games are. There are a lot of very sweet players on this game, however, there are those who like to bully, and a few who like to turn chats sexual. I've only seen 2 naughty chats, and maybe 3 bullies, or bossy people. This game is marketed to 8+ kids, but I feel like it should be more of a 13+ rating, just because of the complexity of the game/ lack of direction, and the few inappropriate players that they may meet. Because I started playing virtual worlds at a young age, I learned about what curse words were, what sex was, and I was 'victim' of bullying. star stable has a chat feature where it filters bad words, but people still find ways to say them. for example: sets = sex. beach = bitch. If your child wants to play this and they are fairly sensitive to words, or are of a younger age, I would monitor them, or find a different game for them to play.I hope this review helped!

It's a cash drain and friendship wrecker. Avoid!

Star Stable is a horse riding simulation game. Great graphics, interesting adventures, and it's about ponies. So what's the problem? My daughter (10y/o) started playing this a few weeks ago, and it has caused her (and us!) so many problems, that we finally emailed the SS people last night and asked for them to delete her membership. This wasn't a decision taken just by us. Daughter agreed that it was just more trouble than it was worth. It has caused upset among her and her friends, and has cost most of her savings (£50). Good riddance.Like a lot of games of the same ilk, it lets you play for free just long enough to get completely immersed and hooked, and then the membership, collectibles etc kick in. After that, it's just money. money. money. These kinds of game are very cleverly (and cynically) aimed at kids, who just aren't equipped to resist. They give status over other friends, by allowing the purchase of special items and membership privileges. Then they get financially invested in the game, and so feel that they can't leave. As well as costing money, this game has caused fallouts with friends ('I've got this, you haven't' etc). So, I would strongly advise you to avoid this game, and any other game which offers in app purchases like it.

Star stables is right about STAR

I love how in this game, children can have the freedom to care for their very own horses, without having to leave the room! But sometimes if the wifi is not on, it can cause gliching. Other then that, have fun with your OWn horse in a vertual world full of surprises and adventure! (don't spend to much money on clothing, your horses need food!)

Star Stable (Pros, Cons, worth a Play?)

So I'm twenty-one, which I've been told in-game chat by multiple kids is too old to be playing Star Stable, but I just can't help myself; this game is so, so fun. The quests are what keep me coming back after three years of play - there is a main storyline, but there's also fun little side quests in which you can help a variety of interesting and diverse characters. Many of these characters are great role models for kids, and the ones that aren't, it's made very clear to the player that that character is either mistaken, making a poor choice, or has evil motives, and I think these clear distinctions can help kids develop a sense of morality as they progress through the world. Players also have to solve puzzles, find clues, and search for missing objects, all of which can contribute to better critical thinking skills and logic. Last but not least, the game promotes the ideal that you can do anything you set your mind to, and that there's good in this world that's worth fighting for, even when times get tough, which I believe is an invaluable lesson that people of all ages can benefit from.Quests can be tedious, and sometimes tough, but most of the time they sit at an easy-to-medium difficulty, and I've never played a quest I couldn't complete with a little work and deductive reasoning. Riding and racing can be hard as well, but they get much easier and somewhat instinctive the more you practice and train. As for the MMORPG factor, this game has a chat filter considerably stricter than Minecraft or Club Penguin, and I've heard its closest comparison is to Roblox. Yes, people can get around the filter, but it's not easy, and when I see people typing other words to avoid censorship, such as hrd = hard, be.ach = beach, it's so they can use those words in an innocent context, since Star Stable has a habit of banning normal words because they might possibly have a slight inappropriate insinuation when put into a profane or sexual context. I very rarely see players swearing, and in three years I have yet to see any blatant sexual content or sexual roleplay between players. The worst I come across is very vague innuendos, which are rare enough in themselves. There is an issue with players tending to say some pretty harsh things to each other, because a lot of kids have this idea that because they're behind a screen, they have no consequences, but I think this can be solved by A. teaching your child to be the better person, B. using the ignore function (which is essentially a block button), and C. just monitoring your child's use of the chat. Plus, most bullies tend to not have supporters - if someone is being rude to another player, there's always someone who will call them on it. Bullies exist, and yet there are always twice as many defenders who refuse to be a bystander. It's quite touching, to be honest. The only other concern I could possibly raise is that once you get late into the game, around Level 18, some of the quests get darker and can be scary to younger players. There's never any gore - or any blood whatsoever, though. As of 26/03/19 I have seen only one character die in the game, ever, and her death is very non-graphic and focuses on the emotional aspect. I honestly don't think violence is an issue whatsoever, but if your child is easily frightened, maybe monitor them as they go through the late-game main story quests with Pandoria and Dark Core.Other pros:- When you run out of quests, it's possible to get bored, but the game updates every Wednesday so there's always new content.- Unlike other MMORPGs, you are never required to interact with other players to achieve or complete anything. You can play the entire game without speaking to a single other player if you want.- There's lots of servers, so if you have issues with a player or want to move to a server with less or more people, you can switch for free. There's twelve North American servers, ten currently open as of 26/03/19.- The game goes by very slowly at times, since you often have to work your way up to a higher reputation to unlock quests, which can be frustrating, but it also teaches patience and stretches out the game so you have continuous content for longer.Other cons:- Lifetime membership cost itself isn't awful (I recommend you wait until it's 30% off on certain weekends so it costs $53) but star coins, one of the two in-game currencies, are very expensive. Wait til double star coins weekends to buy them - it's a waste to buy them at normal price.Anyways, TL;DR:Star Stable is one of my favorite games of all time, and is definitely worth a play. There's something to offer for all ages and the continuous new content keeps you engaged. If your child is under twelve, monitor them, but this game is safe for young children as well. I hope this helped :)

Awesome Game

Star Stable is a great game and suitable for all ages. There are some bad people on there, but Star Stable does have an ignore feature to block these types of people. The pricing is fair, and it really puts people's puzzle solving skills to the test. If you ever wanted your own horse and pony but could never get one in real life, then Star Stable is for you. Great and unique graphics with a very interesting and diverse storyline where you are at the centre of it all. What are you waiting for? Although pricey its honestly pretty worth it

All the other posts r from when the game was in its early outdated stages but now its grown bigger and better. Theyve recently updated their graphics. So far ive only encountered ONE toxic player. Yep. Just 1 .Almost everyones rly nice there. Their customer support has improved greatly over the years too. I was stuck on a quest once and they were happy to help. got a response in about 24 hours. They have lots more staff than before and even have a yotube channel. They ve been adding alot more content like quests. All in all even though its a bit pricey id say its pretty worth it. The communitys great, They update regurally and update pretty good content like quests, and its rly kid friendly. Let me remind u than ive been playing for over a year and only ONE TOXIC PERSON. Sry if the reviews kinda bad but i think you get the pointTheyve improved alot over the years and its generally alot more better

Great GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally like this game a lot, and recommend it for everybody! Sure, the star coins are expensive, but I think it's totally worth it! When I unlocked Epona (a part on the map where you have to be level 17 to unlock), I went on the game more because my dream horses are there. Lovely nature there, and interesting and hooking quests! I'm only 9 years old, so be aware that I am going to have grammar mistakes, lol. (Lol means laughing). The horses are beautiful! I am on the Chocolate Cupcake server, my name on SSO is Allegria Beesmith, and I am level 17!

Great for Older Kids and Adults

I am an adult (21) Star Stable player. I’ve been an equestrian all my life, so I thought I’d give it a go. It’s very similar to World of Warcraft, in where you do solo missions in a world server. There are also a couple things like groups, clubs, and championships that are done in a multiplayer fashion. I find it very fun and a bit addictive. To have success in the game you have to spend money. There’s no way around that. As an adult, I can monitor how much I’m spending, but young kids will struggle. It’s easy to look at other riders, see their fancy horses and matching gear sets and get jealous and just flush money down the toilet. Honestly I fell into that too. I ride Arabians in real life and when I saw you could buy an Arabian I spent all my time leveling up to the right level and then spent like $50 to get the horse and a new gear set (oops). Oh yeah and to get certain horses you have to be a certain level, which means, if the horse is above a level 5 clearance, it’s star rider only. The chat is filtered but people are still inappropriate, and they block the strangest things (like the word Breed. So you can’t ask someone “what breed is your horse?” Also all numbers are blocked both 1 and spelled out). People can be bullies too, but you can easily hide the chats and not partake, which is what I do. The graphics are good. People complain but it has to be a difficult game to code, so it doesn’t bother me. You can up your graphics and make them fancier, but my Mac doesn’t support it. There are no boy characters!! This bothered me because I prefer to play as male characters, and it wasn’t an option. When asked about it, SSO didn’t respond with a reason, but I assume they don’t want to change the chat language. A few NPCs talk about their boyfriends and say things like “he’s mine don’t even think about it!” I see no big deal with saying that to a boy character, but I know some people would flip out at the idea of a gay character, so I guess I get it (but I don’t agree with it at all). I still wish there were male character options though. The horse is not easy to control. I am level 12 and my horse is 12 as well, and I still crash into stuff all the time. It doesn’t help that (this may be a my computer issue) my horse will sometimes get a mind of it’s own and start spinning in circles, or fall through the ground went I ask it to jump. The races start easy, but get almost impossible as you level up. As an equestrian, nothing in furiates me more than the jumping courses, because they are actually physically impossible unless you slow to a walk for some of the turns. The trail races are insane. Some of them are for sure 15+, because anyone who doesn’t have the patience of a saint will through their computer through a wall with how difficult they are. They offer both English and western discipline tack, and lots of variety so you can really deck yourself out (if you have the cash). It’s very sucky that the characters only ride English style though, so dressing your horse in full western setup doesn’t change anything, which I found out after dropping quite a bit on a western tack set. It wouldn’t be hard for them to code in a different riding style, and I really wish they would. The customer service is not good. No bueno. I understand that SSO is headquartered in Sweden, so their English might not be perfect, but still they often never reply, and if they do it’s short and almost a little snotty. I’ve found turning to forums online (I would go as a parent and not let your young kids go since they’re not monitored) to solve my issues has been more helpful.

An Educational Game with Themes of 'Girl Power'!

Star Stable has great messages. Whether you're doing a quest about helping the environment, helping a friend, etc. it's all positive messages. There is definitely a central theme on 'girl power'!The game mechanics are simple to understand, with room to try to improve and challenge yourself through races and other quests. The only downfall I would say is that the price tag is quite expensive, but definitely worth the investment if genuinely interested in playing for awhile. The 'free trial' of the game, up to level five, has quite a few hours of playtime. To further progress through the game, you must pay monthly or pay for the full game in all: 70$ some dollars. If you are really interested in playing this visually stunning game and have the money, I'd recommend it in a heartbeat. It's quite relaxing.

I recommend that you find another game to play.

Game support is awful, they are condescending and will brush aside whatever you are inquiring about as if it is a complete waste of their time. When they update and something goes wrong and no longer works they are just “Oh well, its broken, deal with it”. There are a number of rude and disruptive players that will deliberately go around bad mouthing others or being rude to someone just because they are bored and it gives them something to do. This was at one time a big problem however as Star Stable is slowly dying it has not been as big of a problem, however it is something to beware of. Do not ever give out your login information to anyone not even Star Stables tech support. If you are going to communicate with players outside the game create a new email that is not connected to your account. We create emails for gaming, communicating, junk mail, and business, yes it’s a lot of emails but it’s worth it.They claim that they are bound by their laws when it comes to in-game communication, this has been a long debate on Star Stables, I myself have looked a number of times and cannot locate these laws, claiming that you are not allowed to say over half of the spoken language in which the server is designated for, as in, if the server is a western server over half of the American language is not permitted to be spoken in, in game chat, you are not permitted to type numbers as in, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 or one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and so on. Names of PCs (player character), OPCs (other player character), and NPCs (non-player character) are not permitted, as in, quest givers names are not permitted to be spoken, your character’s name is not permitted, and everyone else’s characters names are not permitted, some given names of characters are now allowed however full names are still not permitted, (for those who do not know all PCs must have a surname that you may pick from a predetermined list when you create your account, as well as your characters given name. No two PCs may have the same given and surname, as in, Samantha Bluebell no one else may have this name, you can have the same given name but not the same surname or the same surname but not the same given name). And now in Star Stables brilliants they will ban you from in-game chat for saying something THEY do not like, you will not know from what it is that you said that caused it, it does not have to be derogatory and more than likely will not be from saying something that is derogatory, it will more than likely be from talking to someone in a friendly manner, My daughter was ban from in-game chat for saying to a friend in friend messaging and I quote “ur a bad liar”. According to Star Stables support this is obscene and vulgar language, sexually explicit and dating-related content, disruptive, harassing, threatening, violent, and a hate speech. I recommend that you find another game to play.
